Proudly Serving Urmston Since 2003

Earlier than I can really remember I lived with my parents at my Grandad and Nana's chippy.
Fast forward fourteen years, knowing exactly the direction I was heading in (thanks to Don - family friend).
I trained to the highest level of food production and followed a career including fine dining, training at 2star La Manoir aux Quat' Saisons under the direct tutelage of M. Raymond Blanc and later general manager of a national company. Then; We decided to buy a chippy!. I bought a "Loot" newspaper and saw Whittaker's advertised, spoke to Bev - who always supported my mad ideas; I walked in to the shop and made an offer, knowing nothing. It was awful, I over paid, it took no money, I lost 2.5 st' in weight due to stress and almost lost our house. We had three young children, who hated the place having to spend all of their evenings upstairs at the shop playing or doing homework.
From day one we insisted on the best of the best produce, potatoes, fish, fat, whatever it was quality was at the forefront. Added to this my background in the service industry proved useful, instilling a "can do" attitude.
In 2009 my sister Deborah put us forward for The British Potato Council's "Best Chippy in the U.K.", which we won. At that time Emma joined us, and I don't think we have ever made a better decision than employing her. She takes complete ownership of the business and has worked tirelessly to this day. We've won other awards since because we continue to maintain our ethos of providing the very best quality and the very best service.
We have recently completed a full refurbishment of the building and introduced a comment card system, encouraging customers to share their thoughts with us. Should we ever not meet your expectations, we have a simple policy: apologise, refund and replace. Please speak to us directly rather than turning to social media, as one poor review can have a huge impact on a small family business.
